I said that Jeff had mentioned Zion Park as a destination spot so after the Valey of Fire, we head towards Utah. Daylight was waning as we got to the park but it was still beautiful. Zion National Park is probably about 2 1/2 - 3 hours from Las Vegas but the scenery couldn't be more different.

In the summer months you have to park near the entrance to the park and take shuttle buses to the different points of interest and hiking paths within the park. Not so in the winter months. We paid our entrance fee and proceeded to drive to the end of the road, stopping whenever we wished to take a short trip or gaze at the snow covered beauty.

The temperatures in The Valley of Fire were in the mid 50s with a strong gusty wind making it seem colder than it was. The temperatures in Zion Park were obviously colder than the 50s as the snow cover would suggest. However, the air was still and the temperature was bearable even for cold-natured me.

Hiking the snowy, icy, slippery trails was an experience staying upright. The waning light added a touch of surrealism to the place. Eerie and cool at the same time.
