"I must tell you of a certain one"-
"I am your man", he chortled.
"No one else could do all I have done"
Then FDR was startled;
When a voice in loud profusion
Said, "Oh, there could be no other one
With organized confusion,
But I’ll do the things you left undone"
Then FDR did glow with pride,
(Though he resented the intrusion)
Said, "So now you are on my side",
(For that was his conclusion)!
-- Dewey --
"I don’t mean to be a deceiver
But Roosevelt is indispensible-"
-- Roosevelt butting in --
"Spoken just like a true believer,
Young man, you’re getting sensible!"
-- Dewey continuing --
"To those whose jobs you’ll perpetuate
And places of power let penetrate
Permitting them, evils to perpetrate.
Returning integrity is our task,
And not Roosevelt to the White House, I ask
That truth and right may once more reign,
And we can have honor in government again."
